MdSelect Performance Issues

Bug, feature request, or proposal:

On relatively slower devices (tested on Nexus 4), when we open Select list, select a value and close list the scrolling of page doesn't stays smooth.

What is the expected behavior?

Interaction with material component shouldn't create any side effect.

What is the current behavior?

Page scroll with jerkiness, after closing a select list with approx 100 list items.

Are you still seeing this issue in more recent versions of material? I was not able to see this issue myself, however I did not have a Nexus 4 on hand to try to reproduce it.

I can confirm that IE11 has this problem when there are like 100 items in the select. It takes some time to open the select when clicked.

@josephperrott the issue still exists with Nexus 4.

With latest release, I am seeing it on desktop browser as well.

Click Toggle form
Open few select lists , close it.
Click Toggle form to hide form, and then Toggle form to show it again.
You will notice that the second load is even slower than first one.

Chrome with dev tools open is also very slow. I replaced all my md-selects in my own app with native select and things sped up dramatically. Not a solution but clearly points the finger at the md-select component.

This is probably something that would only be alleviated by virtual scroll

Can confirm IE11 shows this in version 5.2.2, at least. I realistically have to put in code to *ngIf away from mat-select if the client is using IE11, as a list of 135-145 entries/objects binding as mat-option entries will cause about a 5 second delay opening the select list upon clicking in IE11. This does not seem to be correlated (for me, at least) with being in a mat-form-field, as it behaves the same even outside of mat-form-field.
