[Feature Request] In addition to operator overloading also provide getters/setters

This request has been made by @sebromero. The intend is to have visible methods for setting and retrieving (getting) data from both shared variables and sink/source abstractions as operator overloading can sometimes confuse the user who expects a certain type of behaviour from a standard operator.
