Details

At random times, I see a window popping up that asks me whether to download the latest version of Git which is 2.23. When I click on 'Yes' nothing seems to be happening as a consequence. I'm not sure what it is supposed to do (or) how to make the update work.

  • What did you do to trigger this issue? If you can provide a
Clicked on 'Yes' in the auto-update window.

  • What did you expect to occur?
That the latest version would be downloaded and installed.

  • What actually happened instead?
Nothing happens. The window just goes away after I click. No new window pops up.

Observation about updating Git for Windows

Also, I couldn't find any way to manually trigger the update. This makes me think that the only way other than auto-update (which doesn't seem to work) to update Git is to download the installer for the latest version from the releases page and install it. This is my understanding, let me know if I'm wrong.
