Repository.ListRemoteReferences throws confusing exception with bad creds

If I call Repository.ListRemoteReferences(string, CredentialsHandler) with a CredentialsHandler that returns invalid credentials, I get an exception with the message "this remote has never connected". It would be nice if the message indicated invalid credentials.
