The tests apparently did include this case, but I forgot to update the test-case when I iterated on the design.
(can't test right now, though I think/hope this should be the only error)

rustc_trans: don't Assert(Overflow(Neg)) when overflow checks are off.

Generic functions using `Neg` on primitive types would panic even in release mode, with MIR trans.
The solution is a bit hacky, as I'm checking the message, since there's no dedicated `CheckedUnOp`.

Blocks Servo rustup ([failure #1](http://build.servo.org/builders/linux-rel/builds/2477/steps/test_3/logs/stdio), [failure #2](http://build.servo.org/builders/mac-rel-css/builds/2364/steps/test/logs/stdio)) - this should be the last hurdle, it affects only one test.

Without that flag, LLVM generates unaligned memory access instructions, which are not allowed on ARMv5.

For example, the 'hello world' example from `cargo --new` failed with:

I traced this error back to the following assembler code in `BufWriter::flush_buf`:

Note that `fp` points to `sp + 29`, so the three `str*`-instructions should fill up a 32bit - value at `sp + 28`, which is later used as the value `n` in `Ok(n) => written += n`. This doesn't work on ARMv5 as the `strh` can't write to the unaligned contents of `fp`, so the upper bits of `n` won't get cleared, leading to the assertion failure in Vec::drain.

With `+strict-align`, the code works as expected.

Allow atomic operations up to 32 bits

The ARMv5te platform does not have instruction-level support for atomics, however the kernel provides [user space helpers] which can be used to perform atomic operations. When linked with `libgcc`, the atomic symbols needed by Rust will be provided, rather than CPU level intrinsics.

32-bit versions of these kernel level helpers were introduced in Linux Kernel 2.6.12, and 64-bit version of these kernel level helpers were introduced in Linux Kernel 3.1. I have selected 32 bit versions as std currently only requires Linux version 2.6.18 and above as far as I am aware.

As this target is specifically linux and gnueabi, it is reasonable to assume the Linux Kernel and libc will be available for the target. There is a large performance penalty, as we are not using CPU level intrinsics, however this penalty is likely preferable to not having the target at all.

I have used this change in a custom target (along with xargo) to build std, as well as a number of higher level crates.

So don't merge this yet, I'd like to learn about correct instance first; however, I think this already fixes a bunch of weirdness i'm seeing debugging from time to time, not to mention backtraces in gdb via `bt` are now ~readable~ meaningful 🎉

Building for x86_64-unknown-linux-musl currently results in an executable lacking debug information for musl libc itself. If you request a backtrace in GDB while control flow is within musl – including sycalls made by musl – the result looks like:

Building for x86_64-unknown-linux-musl currently results in an executable lacking debug information for musl libc itself. If you request a backtrace in GDB while control flow is within musl – including sycalls made by musl – the result looks like:

There is a hot path through `opt_normalize_projection_type`:
- `try_start` does a cache lookup (#1).
- The result is a `NormalizedTy`.
- There are no unresolved type vars, so we call `complete`.
- `complete` does *another* cache lookup (#2), then calls
  `SnapshotMap::insert`.
- `insert` does *another* cache lookup (#3), inserting the same value
  that's already in the cache.

This patch optimizes this hot path by introducing `complete_normalized`,
for use when the value is known in advance to be a `NormalizedTy`. It
always avoids lookup #2. Furthermore, if the `NormalizedTy`'s
obligations are empty (the common case), we know that lookup #3 would be
a no-op, so we avoid it, while inserting a Noop into the `SnapshotMap`'s
undo log.

When encountering an unexisting method for a given trait where an
associated function has the same name, suggest using the appropriate
syntax, instead of using `help` text.

When only one candidate is found, do not call it "candidate #1", just
call it "the candidate".

Suggestion for 'static impl Trait return

When encountering a named or anonymous sup requirement (for example,
`&'a self`) and a `'static` impl Trait return type, suggest adding the
`'_` lifetime constraing to the return type.

Fix rust-lang#43719, rust-lang#51282.

[NLL] Dangly paths for box

Special-case `Box` in `rustc_mir::borrow_check`.

Since we know dropping a box will not access any `&mut` or `&` references, it is safe to model its destructor as only touching the contents *owned* by the box.

There are three main things going on here:

1. The first main thing, this PR is fixing a bug in NLL where `rustc` previously would issue a diagnostic error in a case like this:

2. The second main thing: The reason such code was previously rejected was because NLL (MIR-borrowck) incorporates a fix for issue rust-lang#31567, where it models a destructor's execution as potentially accessing any borrows held by the thing being destructed. The tests with `Scribble` model this, showing that the compiler now catches such unsoundness.

However, that fix for issue rust-lang#31567 is too strong, in that NLL (MIR-borrowck) includes `Box` as one of the types with a destructor that potentially accesses any borrows held by the box. This thus was the cause of the main remaining discrepancy between AST-borrowck and MIR-borrowck, as documented in issue rust-lang#45696, specifically in [the last example of this comment](rust-lang#45696 (comment)), which I have adapted into the `fn foo` shown above.

We did close issue rust-lang#45696 back in December of 2017, but AFAICT that example was not fixed by PR rust-lang#46268. (And we did not include a test, etc etc.)

This PR fixes that case, by trying to model the so-called `DerefPure` semantics of `Box<T>` when we traverse the type of the input to `visit_terminator_drop`.

3. The third main thing is that during a review of the first draft of this PR, @matthewjasper pointed out that the new traversal of `Box<T>` could cause the compiler to infinite loop. I have adjusted the PR to avoid this (by tracking what types we have previously seen), and added a much needed test of this somewhat odd scenario. (Its an odd scenario because the particular case only arises for things like `struct A(Box<A>);`, something which cannot be constructed in practice.)

Don't run `resolve_vars_if_possible` in `normalize_erasing_regions`

Neither `@eddyb` nor I could figure out what this was for. I changed it to `assert_eq!(normalized_value, infcx.resolve_vars_if_possible(&normalized_value));` and it passed the UI test suite.

HWAddressSanitizer support

#  Motivation
Compared to regular ASan, HWASan has a [smaller overhead](https://source.android.com/devices/tech/debug/hwasan). The difference in practice is that HWASan'ed code is more usable, e.g. Android device compiled with HWASan can be used as a daily driver.

# Comments/Caveats
* HWASan is only supported on arm64.
* I'm not sure if I should add a feature gate or piggyback on the existing one for sanitizers.
* HWASan requires `-C target-feature=+tagged-globals`. That flag should probably be set transparently to the user. Not sure how to go about that.

bypass auto_da_alloc for metadata files

This saves about 0.7% when rerunning the UI test suite. I.e. when the metadata files exist and will be overwritten. No improvements expected for a clean build. So it might show up in incr-patched perf results.

There are more places that trigger auto_da_alloc behavior by overwriting existing files with O_TRUNC, but those are much harder to locate because `O_TRUNC` is set on `open()` but the writeback is triggered on `close()`. The latter is the part which shows up in profiles.

Otherwise, we can get into a situation where you have
a subtype obligation `#1 <: #2` pending, #1 is constrained
by `check_casts`, but #2` is unaffected.

Specialize array cloning for Copy types

Because after PR 86041, the optimizer no longer load-merges at the LLVM IR level, which might be part of the perf loss.  (I'll run perf and see if this makes a difference.)

Also I added a codegen test so this hopefully won't regress in future -- it passes on stable and with my change here, but not on the 2021-11-09 nightly.

Only deduplicate stack traces for good path bugs

Fixes rust-lang#106267

Restores backtraces for `bug!` and `delay_span_bug` after rust-lang#106056. Only `delay_good_path_bug` needed its backtraces to be deduplicated, since it spits out the backtrace where it was created when it's being emitted.

The fix was to only copy files from `rust-std` unless a Step explicitly requests for the `rustc-dev` components to be available by calling `builder.ensure(compile::Rustc)`.

To avoid having to re-parse the `rustc-dev.tar.xz` tarball every time, which is quite slow, this adds a new `build/host/ci-rustc/.rustc-dev-contents` cache file which stores only the names of files we need to copy into the sysroot.

This also allows reverting the hack in
rust-lang#110121; now that we only copy
rustc-dev on-demand, we can correctly add the `Rustc` check artifacts
into the sysroot, so that this works correctly even when
`download-rustc` is forced to `true`.

Stop turning transmutes into discriminant reads in mir-opt

Partially reverts rust-lang#109612, as after rust-lang#109993 these aren't actually equivalent any more, and I'm no longer confident this was ever an improvement in the first place.

Having this "simplification" meant that similar-looking code actually did somewhat different things.  For example,

Use `load`+`store` instead of `memcpy` for small integer arrays

I was inspired by rust-lang#98892 to see whether, rather than making `mem::swap` do something smart in the library, we could update MIR assignments like `*_1 = *_2` to do something smarter than `memcpy` for sufficiently-small types that doing it inline is going to be better than a `memcpy` call in assembly anyway.  After all, special code may help `mem::swap`, but if the "obvious" MIR can just result in the correct thing that helps everything -- other code like `mem::replace`, people doing it manually, and just passing around by value in general -- as well as makes MIR inlining happier since it doesn't need to deal with all the complicated library code if it just sees a couple assignments.

LLVM will turn the short, known-length `memcpy`s into direct instructions in the backend, but that's too late for it to be able to remove `alloca`s.  In general, replacing `memcpy`s with typed instructions is hard in the middle-end -- even for `memcpy.inline` where it knows it won't be a function call -- is hard [due to poison propagation issues](https://rust-lang.zulipchat.com/#narrow/stream/187780-t-compiler.2Fwg-llvm/topic/memcpy.20vs.20load-store.20for.20MIR.20assignments/near/360376712).  So because we know more about the type invariants -- these are typed copies -- rustc can emit something more specific, allowing LLVM to `mem2reg` away the `alloca`s in some situations.

rust-lang#52051 previously did something like this in the library for `mem::swap`, but it ended up regressing during enabling mir inlining (rust-lang@cbbf06b), so this has been suboptimal on stable for ≈5 releases now.

The code in this PR is narrowly targeted at just integer arrays in LLVM, but works via a new method on the [`LayoutTypeMethods`](https://doc.rust-lang.org/nightly/nightly-rustc/rustc_codegen_ssa/traits/trait.LayoutTypeMethods.html) trait, so specific backends based on cg_ssa can enable this for more situations over time, as we find them.  I don't want to try to bite off too much in this PR, though.  (Transparent newtypes and simple things like the 3×usize `String` would be obvious candidates for a follow-up.)

I have encountered a problem with clippy: it caught ICE when working with a codebase that uses a lot of nightly features.

I don't really know what's going on low-level-wise, but seems like this lin assumed that the length of the array can always be treated as `usize`, and *I assume* this doesn't play well with `feat(generic_const_exprs)`.

I wasn't able to build a minimal reproducible example, but locally this fix does resolve the issue.

Make `TyKind::Adt`'s `Debug` impl be more pretty

Currently `{:?}` on `Ty` for a `TyKind::Adt` would print as `Adt(Foo, [])`. This PR changes it to be `Foo` when there are no generics or `Foo<T>`/`Foo<T, U>` when there _are_ generics. Example from debug log:
`├─0ms DEBUG rustc_hir_analysis::astconv return=Bar<T/#0, U/#1>`

I should have done this in my initial PR for a prettier TyKind: Debug impl but I thought I would need to be accessing generics_of to figure out where in the "path" the generics would have to go??? but no, adts literally only have a single place the generics can go (on the end). Feel a bit silly about this :)

lldb-formatters: Use StdSliceSyntheticProvider for &str

&str has associated summary provider which correctly displays string values in debugger, but while working on rust-lang#124458 I've noticed that a &str inside an enum displays a blob of memory until a 0 is reached (as a c-string) which makes a very bizarre experience when debugging

However there is already StdSliceSyntheticProvider which we use for other slices. This PR enables the same synthetic provider to be used for &str, however the summary provider is still fixed to return the string value

I've added a test `debuginfo/strings-and-strs.rs` which prior to this PR would output the following in LLDB:

Repair several `riscv64gc-unknown-linux-gnu` codegen tests

Together with [email protected], we've been starting to explore improving the state of the `riscv64gc-unknown-linux-gnu` target. Additionally, I'm looking to add support for this platform in [Ferrocene](https://github.com/ferrocene/ferrocene) ([Related PR](ferrocene/ferrocene#618)).

While running the test suite, we noted several tests were failing.

It appears that several of the riscv64gc-unknown-linux-gnu codegen tests have not been updated in some time and seem to have experienced a small amount of bitrot.

After speaking with `@workingjubilee` (as I have little expertise in LLVM codegen) I believe these changes to be correct.

### `tests/codegen/riscv-abi/call-llvm-intrinsics.rs`

I believe this change does not alter what the test is testing and is harmless.

Actually fixes rust-lang#97501. I don't think we should suppress the suggestion to add `#![feature(..)]`, though I guess I could be convinced otherwise.

The space after `i64` in the original regex made the regex not match for
opt level 0. Removing the space fixes the issue.
