When I directly type https://www.npmjs.com/search?q=wtr into the browser address bar, the following exception occurs:

When I opened https://npmjs.com to search for wtr and clicked the search button, the following exception occurred:

['bkl'] is not a string, and does not have a replace method.

The package search seems to be down since 9pm CEST at least. The API errors alternate between Too Many Requests and Service Unavailable. I checked this from a host which usually does not use the NPM registry. There seems to the a bigger downtime, but https://status.npmjs.org does not show anything.
