Description
Pandas version checks
-
I have checked that this issue has not already been reported.
-
I have confirmed this bug exists on the latest version of pandas.
-
I have confirmed this bug exists on the main branch of pandas.
Reproducible Example
import pandas as pd
# dataframe with an Int64 column and a missing value
df = pd.DataFrame(
{
'a': pd.Series([1,2,pd.NA], dtype='Int64')
}
)
values = pd.Series([1,2,3], dtype='Int64')
print(df.isin(values)) # [True, True, <NA>]
# equivalent series
sr = pd.Series([1,2,pd.NA], dtype='Int64')
print(sr.isin(values)) # [True, True, False]
Issue Description
The null propagation behavior for isin
differs depending on if the calling object is a Series
or a DataFrame
, should they be the same? e.g. should the series isin
call return a null in the last position?
Expected Behavior
I would expect to get a null at index 2 in both cases.
