I wasn't really aware of the differences between all these hooks but a careful read of https://docs.npmjs.com/misc/scripts#prepublish-and-prepare helped. I agree, this is nice. 💃

... think this is a good way of splitting it up? I always found it strange that python bundles will build when npm install is run.
